The Department Technical
Services is responsible for the
planning, construction, operation and maintenance of
service delivery infrastructure, building control, urban
development, and the safety and health of the residents
and health in the form of ensuring that not only is the
right infrastructure provided but that it is provided to
the minimum health and safety standards, and this
includes building control and urban development, water
quality and sanitation.
Services delivery concerned with the Technical
Department is termed Urban engineering, and therefore
covers township establishment, water and sanitation,
electricity, roads and storm
termed servicing of land), and building control, as well
as support services such as fleet (plant and equipment)
and town planning.
Water and sanitation covers abstraction, treatment,
transmission, storage and distribution of water, and all
bulk and reticulation infrastructure and components
incidental thereto, while sanitation covers sewerage,
health and waste management, including all conveyance,
disposal and treatment infrastructure.
Roads and storm
control, urban development and support services are
quite self explanatory.
specialists required for Municipal infrastructure and
technical services are Engineers (electro-mechanical and
civil), Land Surveyors and Town Planners.
