NEW DEVELOPMENT:  INFORMAL SETTLEMENT

Council wish to formalize the Omdel (!Oas) settlement  and the main objectives are

Surveying and demarcating of individual residential erven.

Installation of basic services such as sanitation, water and sewerage, roads and streets.

Construction of temporary quality pre- fabricated houses to replace the box houses.

         Installing individual pre-paid water meters.

New Tenders were requested for houses for the Informal Settlement because the first pre-fabricated houses were not acceptable.  Three contractors put up their respective products, which range from concrete brick, polystyrene constructions combined with concrete and pre-fabricated concrete panels.  A decisions has to be taken by Council regarding the best and most economical option where after 200 houses will be constructed.

In view of the above, a registration of all shacks in the informal settlement will take place from the 8th February 2013 until the 22nd of February 2013.  Council anticipate implementing and completing the formalization of the area within the 2013/2014 financial year.

The tender has been rewarded to URBAN DYNAMICS to prepare an Integrated Urban Spatial Development Framework (IUSDF) for Henties Bay for the next 20 years and beyond.

PUBLIC NOTICE:  28 November 2012

MUNICIPALITY OF HENTIES BAY

 TO CONDUCT SURVEY OF RESIDENTS

The Henties Bay Municipality has recently appointed a firm of town and regional planners to prepare an Integrated Urban Spatial Development Framework (IUSDF) to guide the spatial and infrastructural growth of the town for the next 20 years and beyond.  Initially, the task will involve the gathering and analysis of status quo data in order to build up an understanding of where the town is now in terms of its constraints, opportunities and growth potential.  Later the study will focus on where it wants to be economically, socially, environmentally and spatially in 20 years from now.

The appointed town and regional planners are Urban Dynamics Africa.  As part of their status-quo investigation, they will be conducting a household survey to collect information on demographic characteristics and housing demand in particular.  This is essential for the preparation of meaningful socio-economic projections.

The survey will be done on a sample basis, whereby 10% of all households in the town will be called upon to complete a questionnaire.  Some of the questions may seem sensitive (eg concerning age or income), but please be assured that all information supplied will be treated with the strictest confidence and will not be used on an individual basis. Information will be grouped together within enumeration areas to produce averages and will be reflected as such in the study reports.

Trained fieldworkers will start visiting residents to complete questionnaires from 26 November, 2012, and may visit your home.  The Municipality of Henties Bay would like to appeal to all residents to give their full cooperation should they be selected to be interviewed for the survey.  All fieldworkers will be carrying a municipal identification card and letter of introduction for the duration of the fieldwork.  Should residents have any queries, these should be addressed, in the first instance, to the Town Planning and Property Officer, Ms. Johanna Shatimwene at the Henties Bay Municipality, telephone 064 502008.
